The Chew’s Mission

Joe’s effusive personality combined with a genuine interest in the well-being of others yielded him a plethora of friends from all walks of life. He wanted everyone to have the opportunity to go to college.

The Helen and Joe Chew Foundation’s (HJC) is a humanities based non-profit using Chinese American history as a form of education and cultural enrichment to inspire the general public and the next generation to pursue higher education in a rural community. HJC's annual mission is to award a scholarship to support the higher education goals of its recipients and to preserve Tehama County's Chinese History. The recipients of HJC scholarships are exceptional high school students who are a resident of Red Bluff, CA.

“Back in the old days only the boys were allowed to go to college.”
